Middle Eight to showcase Royal Opera House Prize Exhibition

At Middle Eight, we're deeply immersed in the arts and the celebration of culture in all its forms. So it's with great pleasure that we unveil our latest partnership with the University Centre South Essex - a testament to the exceptional work of its artists.

A Creative Collaboration

We are thrilled to announce our collaboration with University Centre South Essex to showcase the Royal Opera House Prize Exhibition. This captivating exhibition will grace our lobby from Tuesday, September 12th, to Friday, October 6th, offering guests and visitors a unique artistic experience.

A Showcase of Talent

The Royal Opera House Prize Exhibition features five exquisite costumes, meticulously crafted by students from University Centre South Essex as part of the ROH Prize competition. These costumes, inspired by both ballet and opera, highlight the students' technical and creative costume-making skills. The BA (Hons) Costume Construction program at the university places a strong emphasis on historical and contemporary pattern cutting, construction, textiles, and finishing techniques. The collaboration with the Royal Opera House gives students access to the extensive ROH costume archive, enriching their learning experience.

Honoring London's Creative Spirit

At Middle Eight, we have a deep appreciation for emerging talent in London's creative scene. Our name, "Middle Eight," pays homage to the musical term signifying a distinct musical interlude or bridge within a song—reflecting our location's rich history. This site, once a Methodist church known as Kingsway Hall in 1912, later became a renowned studio for classical and film music recording. While we've undergone a complete transformation, our commitment to music remains strong. We host live music and performances in our late-night speakeasy, QT, ensuring that the legacy lives on.
